Description

This curriculum acknowledges real-world constraints including uncertain technology access, varying comfort levels among educators, and the limited time teachers have for professional development. We build progressively from discussion to exploration to creation, providing time to establish necessary infrastructure while delivering immediate value to participants. Each two-hour session delivers practical outcomes regardless of technical readiness, ensuring no educator is left behind due to technology barriers.  Participants will have time between sessions to apply their learning.  In addition, the facilitator will offer optional extensions to practice to those who want to explore more.

Session 1:  From My Classroom to My School

Before touching any AI tools, we need a shared understanding of what AI should and shouldn’t do in education. This session builds  a philosophical foundation while giving facilitators time to arrange tool access for future sessions. Starting with discussion rather than technology reduces anxiety and ensures all participants can engage meaningfully regardless of their technical comfort level.

Session 2:  Spotting Risks and Misuses

Before we engage in hands-on exploration, we need to understand what can go wrong with AI in educational settings. This session builds critical evaluation skills using demonstrations, screenshots, or shared screens if individual access isn’t ready. By focusing on observation and analysis rather than individual tool use, we ensure all participants can engage fully regardless of their technical setup.

Session 3:  Exploring AI Without Fear

With safety awareness established, we can explore freely knowing what to watch for and how to protect ourselves and our students. Technical issues are expected and normalized—this is part of learning, not failure. Partner sharing ensures everyone participates meaningfully even if individual access fails, maintaining an inclusive learning environment where no one is left behind due to technical difficulties.

Session 4:  Creativity with Guardrails

Transform AI from an  interesting toy to a practical teaching tool by creating something you’ll actually use next week. This session bridges the gap between understanding AI and integrating it meaningfully into your teaching practice.

Session 5:  Becoming an AI Leaders: Sustainable Practice for the Long Term

Move from initial experimentation to sustainable integration by building systems that last beyond initial enthusiasm. This final session ensures your AI exploration continues productively without becoming overwhelming.
